JSW Steel's March quarter production up 15%

Despite the ongoing mining ban in Karnataka, JSW Steel has witnessed 15 percent year-on-year growth in crude steel production to 8.51 million tonnes (MT) in 2012-13.

In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange, the firm said that it could achieve favourable results as it could operate its Karnataka plant at 80 percent capacity despite severe iron ore shortage due to its unique ability of using low grade iron ore through beneficiation process, said the company statement.

The company has its main facility at Karnataka with a 10 MT per year production capacity. Its output for flat-rolled products in 2012-13 was up 17 percent to 6.28 MT

Long-products output increased by 18 per cent to 1.8 MT. Shares of the company closed the day at Rs 671.75, 0.53 percent.
