With the latest Twist variant, the transition is complete. It remains to be seen whether and how much it would help the Nano shed the baggage of manufacturing defects, poor performance and the "sub-standard" image that it came to be symbolized with in its earlier avatar.
Recently, Tata Motors launched the 'Twist' variant of the Nano that includes an electronic power steering.
With the price (ex-showroom) of the Twist now edging up to Rs 2.36 lakh, the Nano's price is within striking distance of that of Maruti Suzuki Alto's base variant at Rs 2.47 lakh. Though the Nano Twist does have several features the Alto base variant doesn't -- such as air-conditioning, music system, alloys, etc.
After sales came a cropper despite the immense global hype that was generated around the car's launch in 2009, Tata has carried out several changes to the Nano -- not just in terms of its looks and engine but also the way it has tried to sell the car.

For instance, in 2012, Nano launched an upgraded a refined version of the car that had sported newer colours, was peppier to drive according to reviews, and had incorporated several changes in both the looks and feel department. The move also coincided with the price of the base version moving up by about Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.5 lakh, not including on-road charges.
The company attributed the price rise to rising commodity costs but it also helped in repositioning the car and moving away from its "cheap" tag, something that was considered by many as one of the key reasons for its failure.
Tata Motors also came out with novel marketing techniques targeted at the urban market – such as offering the car on a credit-card transaction where EMIs would be charged to card over 12 months.
Along the way came out a CNG version even as a diesel version of the Nano is in the works. An electric version called Pixel based on the Nano platform is also due.

Tata Motors stock price
On January 14, 2014, Tata Motors closed at Rs 371.80, down Rs 4.25, or 1.13 percent. The 52-week high of the share was Rs 405.00 and the 52-week low was Rs 252.10.
The latest book value of the company is Rs 59.47 per share. At current value, the price-to-book value of the company was 6.25.
