Coal India production in Apr-Feb is 398 MT

State-run CIL 's coal output for the first 11 months of 2012-13 stood at 398 million tonnes (MT), missing the target of 413 million tonnes.

In a filing to the BSE today, Coal India Ltd (CIL) said the production during the period was 398 million tonnes. The target for the April-February period of the current fiscal was 413 million tonnes.
    
The company has targeted a production of 464 MT for the entire 2012-13.

CIL's offtake in the first 11 months of the ongoing fiscal was just 419 MT, against the target of 425 MT. The Maharatna firm, which accounts for over 80 percent of the domestic coal production, produced 42.6 MT of coal in February, while the company's target for the month was 44.3 MT. CIL's offtake in the last month was 39.7 MT.

The coal firm had missed its revised production target of 447 MT in the last fiscal as well.

Recently, Coal Secretary S K Srivastava had said that CIL would miss the 464 MT production target for the current fiscal by 2-3 MT and attributed the shortfall to workers' resorting to strike and other issues.

CIL had produced 435.84 MT of coal in 2011-12.
