Under a global initiative, the company today announced it will donate 5,000 solar lanterns with LED lights in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.
"India needs eco-friendly energy solutions. We are looking at launching solar panels and fuel cells in the country by next year," Panasonic India Managing Director (Consumer Products Division) Manish Sharma told PTI.
The company is currently conducting a feasibility study for introducing fuel cells, which are meant to store energy, he added.
"We have the technology for fuel cells in Japan," Sharma said, without sharing details such as whether this will be hydrogen-based and where it will be produced.
He further said the company will launch the fuel cells only through 'fully import' route.

Talking about the solar panels, he said the company will launch it by importing them from its plants in Japan or Malaysia.
"This is going to be a big segment. Both individual and industrial segments need energy efficient solutions and we will provide it," Sharma said.
When asked how much revenue contribution the company is expecting from the energy solution products, he said Panasonic India has not set any target yet for the division.
"Our first focus for the Indian market is consumer durables segment, followed by security solutions, where we will enter soon. The third focus area is energy solutions," Sharma said.
Japan-based Panasonic is donating one lakh solar lanterns globally to various regions without electricity in different countries, including India, Myanmar and some African nations, by 2018.
As part of this plan, the company's wholly-owned Indian subsidiary will distribute 5,000 such LED lights in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal through four NGOs.
