Below is the edited transcript of his interview to CNBC-TV18.
Q: Your company has launched GATE coaching. Could you tell us what kind of investment this will entail?
A: There is no investment. We already have facilities available. As we are providing tutorial services to pre-engineering and pre-medical entrance examination, we are just investing on resources which are faculty members. Rest of the infrastructure facilities is already available.
Q: What kind of revenue will it generate for you all? What are the number of enrollments you are targeting? What is the amount per enrollment?
A: GATE is a big examination. Approximately, 12 lakh students register for it every year. It is too early to determine the enrollment we will get, but we are targeting 1000 enrollments this year. We have started this only in our head office and next year we will roll it out across nation to all our branches.
Q: How does this compare to Joint Entrance Examination that clearly is the cream. GATE is not in the same category as Joint Entrance Exam right?
A: Not really. Last four years, enrollment of GATE examination it has grown from four lakh students annually to 12 lakh in 2013. So, the market is growing very fast. GATE has become mandatory for public sector recruitment services too.
So, there is a lot of attraction among engineering graduates to appear for GATE. It brings opportunities as it is a progression for us.
