The healthcare sector hopes Finance Minister Arun Jaitley makes some key changes that will provide a boost.
A CARE report outlined that the sector seeks incentives to boost domestic innovation in medical equipments. These could be in the form of income-tax write-off of 250 percent of research and development expenses as well as in the form of creation of medical technology parks.
The sector also seeks incentives to boost health insurance. These could be in the form of group insurance for unorganized workers, mandatory medical insurance for employees for companies having employees above certain threshold and enhanced income tax deduction for the same.
"These steps are required to enhance insurance penetration and coverage in India," CARE said.
The report also said the government should draw up a healthcare database for the country. This could be done by taking steps to create a health data base linked to 'Aadhar' numbers to enable access to the person's medical history across healthcare institutions.
"This step may be in sync with government's long-term stated intent of universal access to health care," the report said.
